When I arrived in Ethiopia, I knew I wanted to visit the Danakil Depression, but I had no idea how to make it happen. Thankfully, my guide in Addis Ababa connected me with Daniel, who pulled off a miracle by arranging a 3-day tour for me with just two days' notice! Daniel was everything you’d hope for in a guide—reliable, honest, and incredibly considerate.
He even went out of his way to meet me at my hotel, arriving right on time. 🙂 He provided clear information, and the cost was far more reasonable than what most companies charge for similar services. Thanks to him, a dream trip became a reality. I’m especially grateful for his help with the shuttle to get me from Lalibela to Mek’ele.

I spent two unforgettable days and nights in Lalibela, immersing myself in the awe-inspiring rock-hewn churches and the breathtaking surrounding mountains, all thanks to Highland Ethiopia Tours & Trekking. The journey was a perfect mix of history and adventure, including an insightful tour of the churches, a 14K trek to a mountain-top church, and a memorable lunch with my guide and his family at their home (which was absolutely delicious!).
As a solo female traveler, I felt completely safe, cared for, and confident that I was getting the best experience possible. Not only did I leave feeling like I hadn’t missed a thing, but I’m already planning to return for more! The entire experience was nothing short of amazing.

A Memorable Journey through LALIBELA - DANAKIL - ERTA ALE - BALE MOUNTAINS:
This trip was truly unforgettable, leaving me deeply moved and eager to return to explore more of this incredible country. From the friendly and welcoming people to the stunning landscapes, the experience was remarkable—despite a minor incident at the Mercato in Addis Ababa (involving an aggressive individual, likely drunk or mentally unwell). Thankfully, "Capital" Desale Sisay was with us and handled the situation effectively.
We were fortunate to have the tour mostly to ourselves—just my daughter and me, with only one other tourist joining briefly for two days. The team of excellent guides (special shoutout to Abu in Bale for his incredible botanical expertise), skilled cooks, and reliable drivers made the trip smooth and enjoyable. Even the open-air overnight stays were comfortable, with proper mattresses provided. Daniel, our tour operator, went above and beyond to meet our needs and make the experience special.
